Hawker Pacific Aerospace
Customer Overview
Pacific Aerospace's network infrastructure evolved over time, its Main Distribution Frame (MDF) became increasingly congested with years of cabling additions, equipment changes, and legacy infrastructure. The crowded environment made it more difficult to identify connections, perform routine maintenance, and accommodate future network growth.
At the same time, Hawker Pacific embarked on a network modernization initiative that included replacing its core network switches. The MDF supports critical business operations, so the project required meticulous planning and execution to minimize disruption to production. The scope extended far beyond cable organization. It included a complete infrastructure remodel, the installation of new network equipment, and a carefully coordinated migration strategy. Every cable migration and equipment cutover was completed efficiently while maintaining network availability and keeping downtime to an absolute minimum.
The Challenge
Over years of growth and equipment additions, the MDF had become congested with aging cabling, inconsistent routing, and limited organization. The existing environment made maintenance difficult, slowed troubleshooting, and left little room for future expansion.
The project also required the replacement of Hawker Pacific's network switches, a project that traditionally carries significant risk of network outages and production interruptions. The challenge was not simply to "clean up" the room, but to completely reorganize the infrastructure while migrating to new network hardware with virtually no impact on daily operations.
The DTC Approach
Rather than performing a disruptive rip-and-replace, DTC developed a phased migration strategy. Before the scheduled cutover, our technicians completed the majority of the labor behind the scenes by:
- Installing and routing new cabling
- Organizing and dressing existing cable pathways
- Preparing rack layouts for the new equipment
- Labeling infrastructure for easier management
- Coordinating every phase of the migration with Hawker Pacific's IT team
When it came time for the cutover, the groundwork had already been completed. This allowed our team to quickly migrate services to the newly installed network switches while keeping downtime to an absolute minimum.
The Results
The completed MDF provides a clean, organized, and scalable network environment that is easier to manage, maintain, and expand. Careful planning and execution allowed Hawker Pacific to modernize its network infrastructure with minimal disruption to daily operations while creating a stronger foundation for future growth.
